Eid al-Fitr (“Feast of the Breaking of the Fast”) is one of the most important festivals of Muslims. It is a feast that celebrates the end of the fasting during the Ramadan. During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset and they eat and drink only after sunset. Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the acts that should be mandatorily observed by Muslims during their life. Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of the month of Shawwaal. It is believed that the Muslims’ holy book, Qur’an, was revealed to Prophet Mohammed during this month. Ramadan is the month of charity. The Muslims believe that the fasting makes them realize what is hunger and poverty. By being charitable they help their fellow beings. All this brings lots of blessings to them. During the last week of Ramadan, Muslims go to the Mosques and pray till late night. Ramadan is a month when they have to finish reading the Qur’an at least once. Eid al-Fitr is a day of celebration. Muslims around the world go to the Mosques early morning and pray. They wear new dresses and visit their relatives and wish them good health and long life. Thus Eid al-Fitr is a festival that shows brotherhood and family reunions.

Eid is the most important festival of the Muslim. They celebrate the Eid festival end of the month Ramadan. The Ramadan is the holy month of fasting. On the day of this festival, they do not fast as it is not allowed. They celebrate with great pomp and show, zeal and gusto.

Celebration of the Eid

Eid is the great festival, which is celebrated all over the world. The Muslims observes the fast in full month of Ramadan and end of the Ramadan month the moon is sighted, then Eid is celebrated. They end their fast (Roza) after the view of the moon. In this way, the Muslims break their month fast.

On the next day, It celebrated with much happiness and joyful. Every year it comes off on the first day of the month of Shawwal. It is a day of gaiety, festivity, and feasting.

On the Eid day, the Muslim people gets up early in the morning. They take a bath wear their best dresses. They decorate the houses with proper preparations.  After all that, they thank Allah, visit mosques and offer prayers by as ‘Namaz.’

They embrace one another and exchange greetings. Every Muslims says with each other as a greeting by their lips “Eid Mubarak.”

Sweets distributed, gifts were given and delicious dishes prepared at home. Friends and relatives invited to feasts. Soft noodles are the most popular dish cooked on this day. At some places, Eid fairs also held. One and all exchange Eid greetings. Children buy toys and sweets.

Each community celebrates the Eid

In Indian community, in all over the world, people celebrates the eid with the great brotherhood, and everyone joins on the day of celebration. The exchanges the sweets and greeting and shared with each other. Whatever they are, Hindu, Sikh, and Christians welcome their Muslim brothers.

The celebration of this festival promotes the national integration and the feeling of brotherhood. People enjoy so much on this day, and it also becomes double, when they shared. Eid brings the real message of friendship for all of us.

Importance of Eid

  • It is vital to get the great soul of mind due to the believing in the fasting of Ramadan month. It purifies the heart in every year.
  • It is perfect for the people, who believe in the fasting of Ramadan month and after fasting, they do the prayers of their god to save them from going to hell and opens the door of heaven.
  • They may lead the pure and holy life during the month of Ramadan.
  • They observe fast during the Ramadan month, pray the Namaz five times a day, read the Koran, feed the hungry and give alms to the poor.
  • It becomes the real charity and greatest virtue during the month of Ramadan.
  • The sight of the new moon of Eid is considered very pious and holy by the Muslims. It is a signal for the celebration of a festival the very next day.

It is the festival of love and goodwill. It gives a great message to love all and don’t hate anyone. It teaches us to embrace all men as brothers. Many of the separate lovers hope that they will meet with each other on today. It is the perfect day for say the goodbye to all hatred, jealousy, and enmity and bring in an era of love, sympathy, and brotherhood.
